sue1895 @lisbet2 A conversion chart of EU to US sizes suggests that a 39 = 8.5. However, my personal experience is that they are a large 8.5. these are my personal shoes, and they fit perfectly—I usually wear size 9, in other brands, rarely an 8.5.
