After visiting a Sephora's in Greensboro, I was highly interested in getting some foundarion that gives my skin the dew glow. I approached the sales rep and asked if she could help. She grabbed this machine and did a test of my skin for just the right color. Then she found a couple of matches in the brands they offer. She picked a brush and began to makeup half of my face so that I could see the difference. This was exciting. I received a list to go shopping. The next customer was ready.....

I began to walk away only to turn around because I left something. As I waited for a moment to interject, I watched in confusion as to why she used the same machine that she used on me without sanitizing it. Then proceed with the same process as with me. Leaving to return with samples.

FLOOR SAMPLES! I was never made aware that the powder foundation she used on me was floor samples until I noticed her table. I would have refused. Bacteria can never be removed from any type of powder makeup. Last but not least...

She picked up the same brush used on me to dip into a different foundation to use on this other woman. Normally I would have asked for my keys. But I was shocked at the lack sterilization in between customers. But even more so that thw customer never asked if the machine or brush was sanitized.

This prompted me to study each type of makeup to find out if makeup can be sanitized. The answer I found was 'NO'. When you buy any used makeup, its not different than buying floor samples. You're sharing staph, bacterias, saliva, eye secretions, and more. Especially if someone was sick at some point during use.

A person that's been sick shouldn't even use their own makeup because of a possibility of contaminating themselve for the infected makeup. So while buying used makeup may save you a few dollars now. It may cost you big in the end. As much research on the topic, this is what I found.

And just FYI, I didn't think to ask about santization because this was my first time ever buying makeup with my daughter. And she ensured me that they sanitized everything. Even the floor samples to keep down germs. She worked at the store the Sephora was a part of. So I trusted what she was told by fellow coworkers.
