Hi! I'm Emily. I'm an avid reader, type 1 diabetic, and 3rd grade teacher. Please know that since I am teaching during the week I typically ship on Saturdays, but I try my best to make it to the post office before it closes during the week. I started Poshing to earn some extra money for textbooks during college, and it grew to help me pay my tuition as well as pay for my teacher credentialing exams! Now I use Poshmark to fund my new classroom. I love the idea of giving clothes a new life and minimizing the amount of textile waste we produce! All items are from a smoke-free home. Hmm...off the top of my head, don't let the kids who say "I just don't like science" (you'll hear it often!) discourage you. Bio is the science about YOU and in my opinion, the easiest to make fun! Even those kids usually end up at the end of the year saying they loved it!

@herroyalshyness Thank you! ☺️ Well if you don't have a paid internship, I'd recommend becoming a sub! You can make good $ & get experience that way! It can also help you figure out what grade to teach. Just have to pass the CBEST. I assume your degree is in liberal studies/you're on track to a credential program? I have some people in my cohort who are getting their undergrad degrees at the same time as their credentials. Hope that helped! Let me know if I can be of further assistance. 🙂

@annroseclothes I'm a bio major because my HS bio teacher told me that at least in my state you can't teach a single subject without a major in that subject. But that is SUCH a good idea! Did you actually work as a substitute yourself? If so was it a difficult exam to pass? That's such a great way to figure out which grades I like best. Thank you soooo much!

@herroyalshyness Oh! I'm not used to single subject so I guess it just didn't even cross my mind lol. With a multiple subject credential you can have any degree! The test is extremely long but you can opt to take it in diff. sections or the whole thing at once. Buy the cliff notes book & take practice tests online & and you'll be fine!

@herroyalshyness I wish I had subbed before getting in my program! A lot of my classmates had and I felt like they had an advantage over me. However subbing is way diff. than teaching so just keep that in mind! I noticed you're in the Bay - I actually go to East Bay in Hayward! Have you thought about where you'd complete your credential?

@herroyalshyness And I forgot to mention, as a student teacher you could very well have a lot of opportunities to sub for your class which is awesome because just student teaching doesn't earn you any money! Or if you feel like you can handle being a first year teacher and attending school, you can even be an intern in which you would get paid a salary. But that's A LOT of work!

I'm glad to have some time to decide lol! And okay that's good to know. Maybe I'll wait until my last semester of undergrad to get my subbing credential because I think my schedule would allow more time

@annroseclothes Yeah I am between Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Fullerton so far because CSUSM has the Middle Years program which enables you to get both single and multi subject credentials (that's where my HS bio teacher went) and CSUF offers a credential that can be transferred among states which is cool if I move! What kind of credential programs did your school offer?

I'm trying to get hired at my old high school for a summer job opening in addition to my tutoring internship just to keep my foot in the door because they actually want their students to come back and teach! I'm hoping if nothing else it'll give me some experience and eventually I can possibly sub or teach there!

That would be great if you could get a job there and like you said, it helps that you already have your foot in the door! CSUEB just has multi and single subject credential programs that are a year long. Best of luck with everything! 😊

I was thinking the same thing! It gets a lot easier with a compassionate support system. There's so much helpful tech out now- I found the CGM really helpful. If anything I use it as a "treat yo' self" reminder to allow myself the time to take care of my health.

The College Diabetes Network is a free national support group for young adults with T1D focused towards advocacy and networking. It's worth taking a look to see if there's a chapter near you. But it's also super easy to start one at your school if you don't already have one.

@gemmacapua You're so brave, I'm so scared to try a CGM or even a pump 😂 for some reason the idea of having them attached to me freaks me out so I'm still using the insulin pens! That sounds absolutely amazing though. I don't know anybody else who has this so it would be awesome to get to meet other people who go through the same things as we do!

@herroyalshyness Truth be told, I'm the same way. I've only had the CGM for a week at most just to try it 😂 I haven't messed with having a pump yet but it's helpful to hear other's experiences with the tech. One of the nurses at my doctor's office also has T1D and she prefers to switch off between her pump and pens. It was comforting to know that switching over to tech isn't a permanent decision.

@herroyalshyness It would definitely be worth asking CDN to see what they can do for students in situations like yours. Community colleges still have organizations just takes a bit of research to find them. You could also check out student disability services to see what support groups are offered or even register for their services. I've register but haven't used the services because I'd save it for absolute emergencies like an unforeseen complication leading to hospitalization.

Dont buy those Gucci slides from Isabelparis it’s a scam. She had me send money through Zelle and stole my money and never shipped the item. I’m the reason she took the Balenciaga sandals down. She has me blocked pass this message on so she can’t scam no one else. Poshmark can’t help me because I didn’t buy it on their site

@mischas54 Hi! I’m so glad you like them! I have a pretty large collection of them so as I find new ones when I’m out I’ll keep some and sell others so my collection doesn’t get too big! I usually go to little vintage markets and things to find them. They can be authenticated by analyzing the structure of the 7-digit serial number as well as paying attention to details on the Coach creed and the type of hardware. 😊

@herroyalshyness Thank you, you are so sweet. She is doing pretty good but doesn’t want a pump or cgm so we do everything we can the hard way to keep her bs in check. It is a struggle for sure! It is definitely hard to find other people with type 1 and most of her friends/others don’t really understand it. She is the only girl in her high school that we know of that has it! I hope you are doing well too!

@dvb33 I don’t blame her for not wanting something attached to her like that; I actually tried a pump for a week and it was HORRIBLE, almost landed me in the hospital! Now I just use manual injections and a cgm and it absolutely changed my life. I wear it proudly now :) I was the only one in my whole high school who had it too, it can be so lonely! Even now I don’t have any friends who have type 1! If your daughter ever wants to chat or vent about it I’d love to chat with her!
