Hi Laila, all gold contains alloy except for 24 karat gold,
which is 100% gold.
Solid gold indicates that the piece is thick thru and thru gold. Most pieces today are not SOLID as the price is too expensive. Even items in 14K and 18K gold can be electroplated.
alavenir
This means that a form (shape) of the item is made from wax. This wax is then inserted into a gold bath and hardens. The jewelers put a little pinhole into the inside so they can remove the wax. This is still all gold (10, 14, 18, 22K) for example, but it is not solid, thus keeping the price of the item low. Does this help to understand between what solid is, and hollow is?

Now to understand gold alloys: 10K Yellow gold: Most 10K yellow gold is made up of 52% silver and 6.3% copper in addition to its gold content. This means that there's actually more silver in 10K yellow gold than there is pure gold. Like other types of 10K gold, yellow gold of this purity level isn't a very common choice for high-quality engagement rings.
alavenir
14K Yellow gold alloys: 14K gold is a mix of approximately 58% pure gold with 42% other metals such as nickel, copper, silver, and zinc. It is generally identified by the '14K' stamp.
alavenir
18K Yellow Gold alloys: 18K gold, is composed of 75% fine gold alloyed with 25% other metals like silver, copper, nickel and palladium.
alavenir
22lK Yellow Gold Alloys: The composition of 22K yellow gold is 91.67% gold, 5% silver, 2% copper, and 1.33% zinc.
alavenir
24K Yellow Gold: 24 carat is pure gold with no other metals.

So I hope this helps. Every Percentage of gold (10K - 22K ) have alloys. These change the price of gold because more or less gold is used. It can change the weight of an item, and also the strength of the gold item. Because of more alloys, 10K gold looks the least like real gold, and can change color due to oxidization. I polished your gold ring with cleaner and by hand. If this ring were plated, the gold would have been removed.
alavenir
Which it did not. The gold is still in place since it is real 10K gold. 10K gold is also stronger than other karat weights because the alloys increase the durability of gold. Gold is a very soft metal. When you reach 24K gold, this is very malleable. If it were to get hot, you could change the shape of the gold by simply putting the ring around a pencil.
alavenir
Hi Laila, I hope you understand the terminology better. 10K gold consists of 10 parts gold and 14 parts other alloys. 10 karat gold is made up of 41.7% gold and 58.3% alloy. So gold is always gold until alloys are added to it to change the karat value. Thus, the strength, the color, and the price. If I can help with more information, please let me know. Thank you.

@alavenir thanks but the issue wasn’t about terminology. If you do get the email back from the jewelry company, it would still like to get a copy if you are ok with it. I didnt mean to cause you any trouble I was really happy with the purchase but after having it checked there was some doubt about the stamp. Anyways, thanks again.

@laila_nabi I'm awaiting it. I will also check my files. This item and others were purchased over 5 years ago, so it's archived. Here is the initial one received.

@laila_nabi Poshmark won't ĺet me send it. I'll wait until I get it and mail it to you. Thanks for your patience. And I know you didn't mean any grief. I'm sorry you were given that advice. Stay tuned, okay? I don't want you unhappy. 🙂
