This recipe was given to me at one of my Bridal showers nearly 40 years ago!!! I have made it SO many times! I do use butter instead of oleo though. If you have it, I like to use 1 cup bread flour in place of regular flour and check the consistency of your dough. Too little flour = sticky, too much = hard to roll and heavy. I would recommend a silicone mat to roll these out…so much easier! I have also found that I like to place a slice of American cheese directly on the dough before adding the filling too! I forgot to tell you to make slits in the top to allow the steam to escape. I also brush a little melted butter on top for flavor and curb appeal! I only make 4 of these if as a meal. Picture #2 is right before the baking. Make them smaller for appetizers. Try it, you’ll like it!!😉

lilanastasia @onceuponakind Hi Ruth! This is a really good recipe! Better than the restaurant “Runza”! These are a staple at Nebraska Cornhusker Football Games!

lilanastasia @richardfranc644 Thank you too! The nice thing about these is that you can make them small (as an appetizer) or larger as I did in the pictures as an entree. The larger size is very close to the size served in Nebraska at Memorial Stadium during Nebraska games.🤗

sweetpeadngrbtn Wow! My boyfriend is from NE and they have a fast food place that is called Runzas and sells Runzas and he loves them. It never occurred to me that I can make them! We live in Portland, Oregon and he hasn't been home in a good while. Last year he did have some runzas though. We received a huge box filled with cold packs and dry ice with also four runzas. They were a surprise from his mom in NE. They are really not so unlike Finnish pasties, but pasties often have more of a stew type center.

lilanastasia @sweetpeadngrbtn Yes! My son lives in Dallas and he always grabs some Runzas on his way home after visiting here! I had heard you could have them shipped. If you decide to give these a whirl, I’ve found rolling the dough thin is really good.
