cubannfree123 A “quick” story in two parts! Part I: My husband was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) in January 2012. It was not caught early. Traditional chemo at our local hospital put him into remission within 4 months; the cancer returned a month later. A dear friend told us to go where the experts are. In December 2012, my husband had an autologous bone marrow transplant at the Mayo Clinic in MN, a process using his own marrow. That was six years ago. So far, so healthy!!

cubannfree123 Part II: However, the cancer destroyed his kidneys, so, in October 2015, he had a kidney transplant at George Washington University Hospital in DC. The most amazing part? He was the first (or one of) the first NON-compatible transplants in their new program. I call him my bionic man! He is still with us and in excellent shape at age 62.

motherhenalaska I pray he gets the transplant he needs in time. He is young and has a better chance than some. My husband had an expected wait of 7 years, but died after only 3. He was just shy of his 70th birthday, He was a wonderful man and lived a wonderful life.🙂

foofurr I’m so touched by your story and thank you for reaching out to me as well. He is very handsome and the love you have for each other is immense as I can tell by your undying love to be by his side fighting for your future together. It is very rare to have someone stay and fight with you during such gut wrenching times. I too am very blessed that my husband is by my side when I know his life would be be better without having to watch me struggle and in pain. He is there through it all.

foofurr It is very hard to watch the one you love go through so much. I can tell you this though. Knowing you have someone beside you to fight for you when you are spent is immeasurable. He is very lucky to have you by his side, loving him through such a hard time. Our care givers go through more than we will ever understand but trust and believe your care of us is something we never take for granted and we absolutely appreciate it more than you could ever know.

Please forgive me if I caused any stress. I thought so much about you and your family. We think life is difficult and then we see that others have so much more heart ache. v_vaughan OK I know he’s not for sale! He’s definitely a keeper. My brother-in-law, age 65 has congestive heart failure but is not a candidate for a new heart. Too many problems. His name is John. My sister has to do a lot of his care also so I know how difficult it is. I will be keeping you guys close to my heart, and although we have a small church, we are mighty! Please keep me posted.
