VERY SORRY TO ANNOUNCE. DUE TO CHANGES IN POSHMARKS TAX REPORTING POLICY I AM NO LONGER SELLING HERE. All of my items were personal items that I already payed taxes on, reporting and taxing “income” made here is double jeopardy (illegal) and I’m not here for it. I’ll be closing and donating or selling the remainder at local swap meet. Not to mention an item sold here for $10 + $7.50 shipping + tax = a $20 item that the seller makes only $7 on. And that $7 gets reported and taxed again 30% as an independent contractor. All that work for $4! Poshmark is gouging on percentage taken, up to 30% (Etsy only takes 6%) AND they are making a profit off your shipping as well because companies get shipping discounts when dealing with mass quantities shipments. I know this because when I weighed something during drop off the clerk was telling me how much my account would be getting back per item scanned. So they’re making money off of gouging shipping costs as well.

poshitivelyboho Hi Jessica, I just read the above. In you being a former seller on PoshMark you know the fees. I’m having a hard time with your offer as half of my asking price. You are aware that this is concerned a lowball offer. Is it really nice to offer half as being ok? I’m open to a reasonable offer Not a lowball offer. Thank you 🙋🏻‍♀️ hope you have a great day!

jessicahmonique @poshitivelyboho I do like your vest and your closet is really cute. and also you never know. Sometimes sellers price high so that they can make offers. I had a seller posted an item I liked for $50 send me an a purchase offer for $12. I don’t think it’s rude at all, just try not to take things so personally. Hope you have a good day as well.

amycabral11 I thought we only had to report income if we make over 10k something like that a year ? 🙁

jessicahmonique @amycabral11 it’s way lower. It’s actually $500 in a year. Also I’m not allowed to ship any items unless I give them my ssn and I’m not going to do that. They said it would reset in the beginning of the year but it didn’t. They won’t let me ship any items until I give them my ssn. It’s crazy.

theschittyoubuy Hi! Came across your page. There was an update to this on the IRS website. Here’s the link (just scroll down to “Selling Personal Items at a Loss”): https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-2023-form-1099-k-reporting-threshold-delay-for-third-party-platform-payments-plans-for-a-5000-threshold-in-2024-to-phase-in-implementation.

theschittyoubuy Also — I 100% agree with you. Greedy Poshmark can’t really give tax advice letting people know they can offset 1099 taxes with a 1040 if selling at a loss. The threshold is also expected to go up to $5000 for this tax year. Hope this helps!

goopy1 @jessicahmonique I don’t know if you’ll see this but I have to tell you I am also getting out. I was so pissed the first year they reported to the IRS because it wasn’t required at all. Then everything really went down the toilet with live posh shows. Poshmark became a real garage sale. You are the first closet I have come across who is as angry as I am.

jessicahmonique @goopy1 yea. It’s really lame to see how saturated and low quality it is on top of it but taking large percentages, taxes and profiting off of shipping expenses is crazy. If you have true vintage sell on Etsy. They only take 6% and are transparent on shipping costs. All my other clothes I either traded at consignment or sold at yard sale. It just isn’t worth the time on here anymore. Shipping on this app used to be $3.50

goopy1 @jessicahmonique To be fair the post office has had increases. My sales have tanked this year worse than ever. I am more annoyed that I specifically asked if they were going to 1099 us and they said they would only do what the govt required but that was a lie because it wasn’t required the first 2 yrs but they did it anyway. My husband does our taxes and this has added extra work and we’ve had to pay tax when we didn’t have to before. He was pissed and that’s why this is my last year.

goopy1 @jessicahmonique It’s a shame because I really enjoyed it and I will miss it as my retirement activity. I’m just surprised that many more people aren’t leaving or host live shows where the hook is $3 or $5 starts. Not worth it!
