Since it doesn’t have a loaded canister, I’m assuming it was deployed? Even if just a test?

@btadams71 it was definitely tested prior to its first trip... it’s in perfect working order. It is recommend you do this as well. Luckily I never needed to deploy it in the backcountry 🙏🏼. and I hope you never need to deploy either. Having said that, these safety packs can be a lifesaver! You will need to purchase your own canisters from either REI or black diamond. They run about $50 for the set.

@btadams71 btw, the canisters are not “loaded” per se, rather they are inserted into their receptacles, and are only “pierced” if deployed. I suggest looking up on youtube how these particular packs and system works. Can very helpful. Anyway, thanks for the questions!

@kinraw I meant locked in, but not pierced. There’s never a reason to take them out until pierced, unless checking it, so if there is not one locked in, it is a normal used bag question. The more times in the same season it pierces the less effective the ABS is. And, if ever in a slide should be inspected, I would and have replaced before. I have 3 bags now all BCA. But like how Scott feels in the shoulders. They’re also not ugly like BCA:) So it’s safe to say it only successfully inflated once?

@btadams71 oh good you know your stuff. Yes, only inflated once prior to our trip. After our trip last year, the Jackson Hole airport TSA wouldn’t let us check or carry these on with the un pierced canisters (this is weird because we were able to fly to Jackson hole from San Diego with the canisters🤷🏻♂️), so we removed the canisters and i guess TSA threw them out. I also agree these are way better looking than the BCA bags. They also have skis and board carry options.
