jio25 @luvcoco888 - WOW 98 years - that's a blessing of memories. I cherish all the days with my mom. - and yes - the stories!!! LOL Some are TMI .... hahah. We have some good genes Rae! My husbands mom is 93 but not doing so great since last week 😢. Thank you for sharing in this momentous occasion. It's not everyday when a parent turns 90! So grateful! luvcoco888 It is amazing how resilient we are after devastation. This world is truly amazing and sometimes we forget that is filled with amazing people! So glad things are looking up! My son is loving school and we are set to visit again (and try out another restaurant!) next weekend. He is at such a fun and exciting age - love how he is just soaking everything up!

Very exciting for him as he is an economics and government major. Dad is doing well considering he is either 98, 99 or 100. The records were not great back in the day. Each day is a blessing.

jio25 @luvcoco888 - Crazy weather here too - the winds have been devastating. We are very close to the fires. We live about 5 miles away from the Reagan Library. We packed things up and just waited. The winds shifted and we were spared again - Deja Vu from last year - which came way too close to our home. Skies are blue today and the winds are minimal. 🙏🏼

She doesn't want to move out of her home. I get that but there is also the realistic side. She can't live alone anymore. So, hmmmm! Other than that all is good. We had a great time in Mammoth. luvcoco888 It is a tough decision and there is seldom a "perfect" solution.. Good luck with that transition - I am sure you will be able to figure out something that works for your family. Just spent a quick weekend in NYC with hubby and son. Went to 3 exhibits and had dinner with grade school friends. Only to come home and have to do the overnight shift with dad as one of the aides got sick. All is well though - life is good! Hang in there! XOXO

luvcoco888 @jio25 I don't know anyone who has "liked" having an aide but at some point it becomes a necessity. I have found it important to find someone with "heart" - you can teach a relatively smart person how to take care of someone but you can't teach them to like or love them. I have 2 ladies during the day that LOVE dad and say they have become closer to him than their own fathers. The one at night does her job really well but it is just a job that pays her bills.

luvcoco888 The 2 ladies during the day are willing to bend over backwards for me and often stay way longer than they have to just because they enjoy being there. That scenario is much more pleasant for all of us, especially dad. Your mom not be as apt to reject the idea if the aide is enjoyable to be around...a friend to help with laundry, food, shopping, etc.

luvcoco888 @jio25 My Mother's Day was lovely - I love having my son at home. He has been a very good sport about having to cut short the school year but life is about being flexible and making lemonade when you're given lemons! My dad has continued to amaze us. While he is nowhere where he was, he has made incredible progress from the depths. He has regained 8 lbs of the 15 lost and is now speaking some. So glad you and your daughter were able to spend time with your mom. Very special!!!

snr1955 @jio25 Yes...staying safe, well, and healthy. Been bloody hot here in NC the last month. We've had one hurricane already and the season is just ramping up. We have lived here 5 years and have experienced 4 hurricanes. With global warming there are going to be more and more of them. Thinking of getting out of here...the mountains of western NC are looking good right now.

But I guess in your area, you can count on hurricanes every year - that's scary! We are thinking of leaving CA someday in the somewhat near future. How is your mom doing; did she receive the COVID vaccine? We are doing well and looking forward to some nicer weather. Got X-rays and cortisone shots in my knees yesterday. No cartilage, arthritis and bone spurs in both knees. Too much fun over the years! Still trying to put off knee replacements but that timeframe is shortening.

jio25 @luvcoco888 - Hello Rae! We are doing well. Glad you are too! We would love to leave CA but have to wait for my husband to retire. And then, consider what our kids will do. Lots to consider! My Mom has not received the vaccine. She is nervous to get it - her doctor seemed to agree. Maybe she will after it has more history to the potential long term side affects, if any. She is is staying very careful as she wrangles with the idea of getting the vaccine.

jio25 @luvcoco888 - As for your knee - have you heard of, or considered PRP? I have a lot of athlete friends who swear by it for their knees, shoulder, elbows, etc. It is a natural treatment as it uses your own blood. It stimulates healing of joints, tissue, etc. They now do it on backs and coincidentally I am seeing a doctor on Monday who performs this procedure specifically on backs. luvcoco888 Hi Jeannine - I last had PRP in 2018. Went to NYC Hospital for Special Surgery to have it done - very expensive as insurance does not cover it. They do perform it locally and much more cheaply as they use older equipment which ironically produces better results for arthritis. The newer machines work better for tendinitis. Has something to do which how the white blood cells are processed by each. I needed the cortisone shot for immediate relief. Will go back for the PRP after

luvcoco888 I did pretty well with the PRP for 3 years and my knees were pretty bad then. Stem cell is not as effective for the knees. PRP is definitely worth the try but make sure you ask questions. My best friend is a pharmacist and teaches a self care class called "M.E.L.T" which deals with rehydrating the fascia. Easy peasy and doesn't hurt - you may be able to supplement your treatment. Is your back hurting again?

jio25 @luvcoco888 - It is expensive! I'm sorry you have to deal with all this. I had three back surgeries and 2 meniscus knee surgeries so I can relate! Being a grind through pain athlete most of my life is the culprit of all - and yes, too much fun too! After all the "repairs" a medical device called BEMER has been my miracle. It's expensive but for me, it was worth every penny to have one in our home. It got me back on track. I ended up becoming a distributor for the company.

jio25 @luvcoco888 - My back will always have issues after 3 surgeries that caused permanent nerve damage. The Bemer is the only thing that helped regenerate the nerve. I was down for the count prior. -Actually it is why I got on Poshmark. I couldn't do much else. Now that I've improved, I want to strengthen my back with out causing further disc issues. I am considering PRP to help strengthen the ligaments that support the discs. I will also ask my doctor about rehydrating the Fascia - makes sense!

luvcoco888 It is the MELT Method and the founder is Sue Hitzmann. There is a YouTube segment on "How the MELT Method can help you post run." Another one is "MELT Express Class." There are many segments you can see online but having the book or DVD helps you understand some of the terminology. My friend was such a believe that she became a certified instructor. Yoga and MELT helped her "heal" her back pain

jio25 @luvcoco888 - I just finished watching one of Sue's videos and I'm gonna try it - so excited to add it to my fitness goals. Thanks for the tip Rae! When we find something that works for us, like your friend did with MELT, and now you with me, we want to share it with others. My fellow athletes and friends were so surprised at my recovery and inquired as to what I did. Thus, I shared, it also helped them, and I became a distributor. It was an organic journey. luvcoco888 @jio25 I can't believe how many surgeries you have had. I will likely take care of both knees at the same time although it's not recommended. I hope MELT is of benefit - what could it hurt that we have not hurt already? I do practice it but am not diligent. I will say that it feels good so that's a good thing. My knees are too far gone for MELT but I have plenty of other body parts that need help!

We flew down to FL last weekend and will road trip to CT and DC to visit family and bring my son back to school in about 3 1/2 weeks. I'll be sad to see him go but he needs to be back with friends.
