This porcelain piece is a vintage collectible decanter made by Haas Brothers in 1975 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps. It is shaped like the Tun Tavern of Philadelphia, the 1st recruiting place for the Marines in 1775. Measures approximately 5.25” wide x 1.75” deep x 4.25” tall Front reads: "U.S. MARINE CORPS PHILADELPHIA" with "1775" and "1975" on either side. Back reads: "Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the U.S. MARINE CORPS 1775 - 1975" YE OLDE TUN TAVERN Tun Tavern, a Philadelphia waterfront tavern in 1775, was the first recruiting place for Marines after the Continental Congress authorized formation of battalions under Captain Samuel Nicholas. Robert Mullen, Tun Tavern innkeeper, is reputed to have been commissioned in recognition of his recruiting services." Bottom is embossed with "©1975 HAAS BROTHERS" Please view photos carefully for condition. Of note: There originally would have been a cork with the top of the chimney attached. This piece is not included.
