About: I recycled these antique sugar tongs into this stunning cuff bracelet.
This beauty has quite the tragic history. “Versailles” released later in a different form in 1888 was in its prototype phases when a few thieves were working at Gorham Silver Co. in 1863. It is revered at Gorham as the great heist of 1863. These crooks maliciously stole 20+ draw plates and ruined what is to be believed 50 or more other draw plates awaiting production. With their new stolen merchandise they went over seas to Sweden and sold their new plates to a Smith undisclosed in name and began producing Gorhams patterns straight away. This piece is Sterling Silver Plated as Europe was just beginning to mass produce Silver Plate at the time to improve cost for production and allow a poorer demographic to purchase their patterns. Their crucial mistake was naming their stolen draw plates the same names with an extra word or two from the original. Gorham caught wind of this and ceased their production resulting in less then 30 ever produced. This piece is OOAK and is by all means a true piece of history! I make all of my jewelry feel as good as it looks!
