Vintage 1940's Topazio Sterling Silver Filigree Gilt Floral Necklace

An exclusive creation of a bygone era, Topazio jewelry is reminiscent of the 18th-19th centuries adornments. Known as “Indo-Portuguese filigree”, such baubles first appeared in Portugal in the 16th and 17th centuries, when mariners brought Chinese filigree to Portugal. Having mastered the new technique, European craftsmen began to add colored enamel, precious stones and pearls. This necklace was made in Portugal sometime in the 1940's and was purchased by my mother around 1965 from a shop in Lisbon while she was on a trip to Portugal. It is gold filigree over sterling silver. It is in very good vintage condition.
