Depth is hard to determine but it opens up about an inch or so I can hold a lipstick, small perfume, phone, and all my cards/cash.

@brittgrace89 Okay, thank you. I assume it doesn't have any funky smells or perfume fragrance? (I have asthma and my allergies have been extremely sensitive for the past few years.)

@tex_1973 No smells :) It’s just been sitting empty in a hat box in my closet the last year and I decided it was time to make room for some new pieces. I only used it once for an event so it really hasn’t been touched since I bought it.
