This is a wonderful, traditional (African, Berber tradition) wrap-around body veil, called a tarfottet. Worn by married women in Siwa Oasis, Western (Sahara) Desert, Egypt, these veils are traditionally made of textile and produced in the Cairene area of Kerdassa. The typical Siwan embroidery is later by local women in Siwa. The designs are indicative of the lady that embroidered them. This is a unique, one of a kind piece and a work of art. Please note: This is an entirely handmade piece that was made by local ladies. They are never made for tourists. It has been previously used by a lady in Siwa so it will show wear. There may be holes, stains or discolorations. There may be hanging or loose threads. This is normal and verification of the pieces authenticity.
