Everything new gets sprayed with 2 coats of meltonion to protect it & make it easier to clean in future. I do 3 coats for suede. The Lincoln EZ cleaner cleans EVERYTHING fabric or suede amazingly. I use it to make labels or interiors bright & new looking too. I use magic eraser on outsoles BUT you have to be careful to not squeeze it or the dirty water will drop onto your shoe! Not cool! tiffcake @misslee85 the angelus is the product i use to clean and/or condition exotics. I use a ton of it bc I have to treat them 4X a year here (Vegas desert dries them out quickly) and it keeps them from lifting/curling/sounding crispy and even helps restore them sometimes if I buy them resale and they're in need of TLC

tiffcake The suede brush is indispensable for cleaning suede and exotics. Vaseline on a qtip and WICKED AMOUNTS of elbow grease will buff out scuffs from patent. I also polish leather and use tinted polishes matching leather color to fix scratches and scrapes. For raw leather or light leather, I use something called "delicate cream" instead of regular or tinted polishes.

tiffcake Furniture polish wipes and elbow grease are really good at removing residue if you buy a pair that had inserts or pads inside that you remove. In general stains/residue fall into categories for removal: water-based, oil-based, or alcohol-based. Alcohol is always my last resort because it dries out organic surfaces and can remove paints or dyes. If something doesn't come of with water, then try using something oily to get it off :)

Buying something expensive and ruining them is a Debbie downer but buying something discounted & making them better feels great even if you can't get them perfect. And you don't worry as much wearing them. Some aren't salvageable so just pay what you're comfortable with and good luck!!

misslee85 @tiffcake I did buy them! It's a white pair of Snakeskin Loubs. I STOLE them at 115 dollars. Even if I didn't clean them at all I think I could sell them for more than that! They didn't have any damage. They are being delivered tomorrow, and I got the brush and exotic cleaner you suggested sitting on my table now. Im sooooo excited.

tiffcake Collages show removal of marks from patent. Use a qtip or makeup pad with Vaseline and LOTS LOTS LOTS of elbow grease. I take photos to let me know if it's working bc it's not quick and easy and hard to tell. 3rd photo left side is starting marks on heel right side is abou 10minutes rubbing later when I was ready to give up--but comparing it to photo of where I started let me know I CAN remove this mark!!

tiffcake 4th photo left side is about 10 or 15 minutes rubbing/Vaseline later--comparing to where I started I decided I could get rid of these marks instead of leaving them barely visible. Right side shows final result. BOOM! That's money in your pocket (if you're selling you don't have to discount for damage) or if you're just restoring your own shoes they're like new! :D

tiffcake @mrsbombastic I added photos of before/during/after removing marks from patent. I think you can get the mark off your pair and then you won't have to negotiate pricing based on that tiny flaw... It's just lots of work and will seem like it's not working if you give up too early (it took me half an hour to get the mark off mine). I might have a better pair to clean up but I was getting ready to sell that pair and thought of you!

tiffcake There was a black streak up the length of the heel with some parts of the streak worse than others. But I got rid of the whole thing. At least it's not visible unless you look for it really really really hard

tiffcake @misslee85 wowsers! Why's that lady getting all huffy on your listing?! Not your fault that posh automatically changes the European sizes--and I don't have hundreds of pairs of Loubs like her so maybe I'm not as knowledgable as she, but in my 40some pairs I have sizes ranging from 36 to 38.5 (and I'm a US7!!!!!!)

tiffcake @misslee85 whenever I'm looking for a particular pair of Loubs, I do research first to figure out what size i need in that style since every pair seems to be on its own sizing planet. They're handmade, by different people in different places, and buying them resale adds another layer of complexity to their sizing!

tiffcake So I also look for a particular EU size rather than relying on the US size. The times I've messed up and bought the wrong size were the times folks were trying to be "helpful" by listing their sizing conversion (like listing a 39 as an 8 and then I buy it thinking its a 38 and I get a pair that's 2 sizes too big instead of just a half

tiffcake I just checked and the pairs she has for sale are either patent or styles that notoriously run a full size small. Rolando typically runs small too, but snake is very forgiving like suede. Nappa is like leather used for gloves and also stretches a lot. So your pair is probably an 8.5 or 9 since it's already been broken in

tiffcake @pilatestrainert my biggest gripe is the shoes that have pics with the foot grime still inside them... A baby wipe or makeup wipe fixes it quick and frankly it's inexcusable.. Nobody wants to buy shoes and receive them with foot gunk dirt and dead skin and it's gross to photo them that way!

tiffcake @doxygal I've not been able to remove those myself (I'm assuming you have a raw unfinished leather like this photo I'll add for you) What I ended up doing for this raw leather dior pair is having the cobbler stain/dye them to disguise it. It has a shinier appearance now but over time it will start to look more like unfinished leather again.

tiffcake @doxygal I can tell you that I tried (unsuccessfully) using saddle soap figuring that a product meant for leathers that are exposed to elements would work. It didn't. It looked ok immediately but always went back to being water stained after drying out--makes me wonder if I should have gone to the western boot store here in town for advice!

doxygal @tiffcake I'm thinking of buying a pair if seller will lower price given that my excellent shoe guy was iffy on the fix. Dyeing the leather was a secondary but still iffy option. I've had great success doing that to white lace or silk shoes - my very expensive wedding shoes were given new life as black slings.

tiffcake @doxygal yeah--I'd be firm that the damage cannot be fixed and you're willing to pay a price to reflect the cost of restoring them to a different color. Just pay what you're comfortable with "losing" if it doesn't work out and then you won't be disappointed and might be really pleased if it does work!

tiffcake @beibei74 I like that yellow stuff--Lincoln EZ Get as much dirt off as you possibly can with a super soft suede brush then you use the Lincoln on a cloth that's just barely been dampened with it... if it's dyed suede you have to test somewhere first to make sure the color doesn't come out. Use the meltonion to protect it after cleaned

tiffcake @coledianne you might be able to clean up your pink snake rolandos w/ some angelus exotic cleaner & use Lincoln EZ on the interiors to get a better price...I don't think it would cost more than $15 & they'd last you a long time. They work really well!! Buyers see opportunity for asking for another discount no matter how low you price them if they can say something is wrong they have to fix. Hope it helps!! :)

tiffcake @coledianne I'm definitely a shoe prostitute. And I live in Nevada so we take it seriously loll! I get my supplies from my local shoe repair guy. It's a little bit more expensive to buy from him than Amazon, but he's the one that recommended them to me in the first place so I'm loyal & always buy from him. I pay $8 a piece for them. I have lots of pairs & the desert is absolutely brutal for any organic material. I have to condition quarterly or leathers crack & reptile skins get "crispy"

tiffcake @coledianne angelus is a miracle for rehydrating reptile skins. I don't think it's as miraculous in cleaning as the conditioning but it still cleans. When I buy a used pair & it arrives crispy, I just keep spraying it & working it in & laying the scales flat. It will soak it up super fast when it's dehydrated & seem immediately dry but as it gets less crispy then it will stay wet so you'll know when to stop applying more. If you apply too much it's no big deal--you can just wipe it off.

tiffcake @coledianne no problem!! I wish I could buy the angelus in an industrial size--I use soooooooooo much of it. The Lincoln EZ lasts a really long time (even when you accidentally spill half the bottle haha) Another product to add to your arsenal is meltononian. I spray two coats on everything new or freshly cleaned to help prevent fading and staining :)

Way easier to maintain and wear! Do you know anything to remove transfer from patent? I have a fluorescent pair of Ruthie Davis that was touching the shoe ext to it on my shelving and now it has this hazy dark discoloration (like oil stains on leather)

sk06863 @tiffcake I know tell me about it. You would think it would be more durable!! Ugh I wish I knew something for color transfer. That's the worst. You can try the hand sanitizer or "simple green" cleaner may lighten a bit. But I haven't had much luck. The hand sanitizer has taken some pretty mean scuffs out though. It's magic. Try it and let me know! I just put on a w tip and don't worry about rubbing too hard

tiffcake @epina006 you mean the heel tips? If you have the replacement tips you can TOTALLY replace them yourself. It's super easy! There's even you tube videos. You can buy generic tips online if you don't have them but they aren't the same size/shape you need for some pairs :(

tiffcake @mthill13 yikes!! Getting stains off leather is hard. Personally I’d take it to a professional... if they can’t remove it without discoloring the leather maybe dyeing them to mask it is an option 😥 I had a pair of dior pumps that had lots of water staining and dark discoloration that I couldn’t remove with leather cleaners so I ended up having them dyed a darker shade to disguise it.

tiffcake @mthill13 oh no!!! Transfer is the WORST kind of discoloration to remove—I’ve not found a way yet to remove it, even professionally. I have luck removing stains but not transfer. My only success is with jeans transfer and ONLY when I’ve pretreated the shoes to prevent staining and immediately clean them after every wearing... and I don’t wear light-colored leather/fabric or raw-finished leather with dark jeans.

tiffcake @onedogandacat whatever you do, DO NOT TRY HAIRSPRAY!! It might work at first but hairspray is water soluble so I’m scared it will dissolve whenever it gets wet, take off all your glitter with it, or transfer glitter color onto any other shoes touching them.

tiffcake @onedogandacat moving on to the glitter problem now... I tried two different metallic polishes on specchio and they didn’t work. And matching metallic is even more difficult than matching two different black items of clothing!! I’ve never had such difficulty with polishes before—they just needed to be close to the color. Metallic has to match perfectly. And it still provides no converse over scuffs 😢

tiffcake @onedogandacat I did some research & lots of people recommend hairspray. I myself am not going to do hairspray bc I know it dissolves in plain water and I’m scared it will transfer colors between my glitter shoes and anything they touch. I’m actually going to try a UV protective fixing spray that I used to spray on pencil/pastels artwork. It stops transfer & doesn’t yellow.

tiffcake @onedogandacat I’m going to tape the inside edges with blue painters tape for delicate surfaces and stuff them with tissue, tape the bottoms & I also have to tape the platform & stiletto on mine bc they aren’t glittered (letting it dry thoroughly before removing tape/tissue)

tiffcake just have to test some different kinds to see if it dries too matte/hides some of the glitter sparkle... or maybe see if I can find it in a gloss finish. Normally for artwork you don’t want it to shine bc it hides detail so that might be a challenge on this project. I’ll let you know how it works & what I ended up using!

tiffcake @nesgb Most inks aren’t alcohol resistant—Have you tried isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (realllllllly strong liquor like grain alcohol) to remove the ink? It would even be worth trying windex since that helps shine patent anyway. I remove scuffs from patent using Vaseline. If they were mine I would also try this stuff that I use for suede & shoe interiors & also for dry clean fabrics called Lincoln EZ cleaner.

tiffcake @shicashica The reason I say not to rub in the cleaner is bc yours are satin & crepe (I have that same shoe in different color—it’s called ambrosina—so I know how delicate it is). You really need to get the cleaner foaming to do its magic & since you can’t safely rub satin/crepe w/out wearing down the fibers (you need to be more gentle than suede where you can brush it on & scrub) you’ll need to really shake the bottle up

tiffcake I do my own shoe maintenance bc I have over 400 pairs of heels now in my collection (cough cough, horde lol) so I can’t afford to maintain them all @ cobbler... that would cut into my purchasing budget too much 🤣 If for some reason the cleaner is changing the color of the shoes (it can lift out dye) just make sure to treat the whole shoe/pair then so at least it’s consistent/unnoticeable.

tiffcake @trixie8040 see that “sponge” in grey plastic case in pic 2? It’s a sponge that has the product in it so to use it all you do is take off the lid and rub against the shoes a little bit and they look brand new 😘 would shine up both the leather @ the studs. You could use a black Shoe polish on the backs to reduce the appearance of wear but some people feel like that’s cheating/hiding something (I consider shoe polishes, even tinted ones regular maintenance myself but not everyone agrees)

I bought the Angelus to keep them in tip top shape, but the instructions seem sketchy. Rub in till foamy? Won’t that pull up the scales? How do you use it on yours? Thx!

tiffcake @cadillacclaire i spray it on the shoe and work it in with my fingers so I can feel exactly how much it’s taking it up (when I get a really dry pair i have to use lots more bc it takes it right up). When I’m working it in? I go in the direction of the scales, smoothing them flat as I go. I live in the desert so I do it quarterly for mine but living in a place w/normal humidity you probably only need to do it once per year (whenever they start lifting or sounding crispy)

tiffcake @cadillacclaire some skins don’t have big lifted scales like python so you can rub that in more easily without paying as much attention to direction. You’ll be able to feel it when you do it. You might be able to gently rub in circular motion on some parts of the shoe once it’s hydrated really well depending on the degree of lifting. It’s really not hard at all.

I thought there was one at the canal shops of the Venetian but I’m wrong—it’s at the Wynn. I’ve only been to the one in Caesar’s and it’s been a hot minute. I buy most of my shoes online 1) bc I buy too many to pay retail 2) I’m weird about being social... my boyfriend likes to go to the boutique but I’d rather buy from eBay bc who wants to pay tax! 😆

cadillacclaire Ugh! I hate that! Seriously, why list if you're not going to respond?? I'll keep my eye out for those too. I amassed my collection and went at it hard lol! I'm not sure I have anything that I'd positively drop everything for, but the Lucifer Bow comes close. I'd love to have the Latte-Leo in either Kate or PF, but only for the right price. There's a pair on eBay, but over 600 plus 60 for shipping? I can wait lol.

tiffcake @cadillacclaire yes for me Lucifer is like old pigalle. Lucifer was my first experience w/ the old cut so I got 37.5 not knowing better...replaced them w/37 @ still can’t walk w/ padding. Around same time I also got pigalle mixed spikes (old cut) & just a few weeks ago finally replaced them w/ 36.5. Honestly, could prob do 36 & stretch for BEST fit (I’m US7)

tiffcake @cadillacclaire can’t do THAT circus city. They are missing about a dozen spikes (cost $10 each to replace WITHOUT labor) & they’re really beat up. Seller tried to tell me they were in perfect condition so I had to screenshot to show her how many were missing. She wouldn’t admit to me. tiffcake @icua410 I use “angelus” exotic conditioner cleaner for mine and I like the results. It’s on the left—I get mine from my cobbler bc I’m loyal but you can get it on amazon. I like to use my fingers to treat them bc then I can feel how much I need to use. First make sure you have them clean/dry (I use a suede brush to gently sweep them same direction as scales (to smooth them not lift them)

tiffcake @icua410 then I spray on the angelus on one side or sometimes it soaks in so fast on a really crispy pair that it’s a smaller sections at a time. I gently rub it into the scales, again same direction to lay them flat. I keep doing it until it stays wet/slippery (then I know it’s absorbed enough). I wipe off the excess with just a damp soft cloth, let them dry. Then I do it again if they were really dry. If it won’t soak up the next time, you’re done for a while.

tiffcake @icua410 If they feel sticky afterward when dry, just use a damp cloth to wipe in direction of scales to remove any extra residue. You never really want to get them wet with water (only with conditioner). When they’re all done, I use meltonian to protect them.

tiffcake @icua410 you can spray the whole shoe it’s just sometimes if they’re very crispy it soaks in immediately so I just work on a smaller area at a time. I buy it from my cobbler but I see it on amazon.

tiffcake @icua410 angelus might not work for that... there’s another product (Lincoln EZ cleaner) the yellow stuff in the pic that’s really good at cleaning up grime but it can fade insole stamps so I’m not sure if it’s safe for painted python or not. It’s good cleaning power for most stuff though.

tiffcake @pinaydoll23 I get it at my cobbler but you can get it on amazon cheaper. Bc I live in the desert (and have tons of python heels) I go through TONS of angelus. But it’s a lifesaver when I buy pairs that haven’t been maintained. The Lincoln EZ is a lifesaver too for stains on fabrics and suede.

tiffcake @pinaydoll23 angelus doesn’t smell. Vaseline will remove white or black scuffs from patent but nothing will remove dye transfer from patent.

tiffcake @pinaydoll23 makeup wipes will work but I usually use Lincoln EZ. It can fade a louboutin stamp if you scrub too much but if you always clean your shoes and keep them that way you should t really have to scrub and then it’s fine.

tiffcake @ctryon just use suede brush then see if they need anything further... maybe use a damp (not wet) cloth to dab them. If ANY dye comes off when dabbing with plain water then Lincoln EZ is a bad idea. Maybe try canned air after brushing??? There’s a product to renew suede nap—I don’t know the name of it but I saw it at cobbler last time I was there. It probably can only be used after all dirt removed
