Furniture polish or leather wipes clean the icky black gunk out of the insides/insoles--I'm disgusted when I see listings selling shoes with all the toe grime and dead skin and dirt left inside!! Yich! Lincoln EZ clean restores fabric labels inside the shoes to their original, dirt free brightness (and works wonders for stained fabrics/suede in general)

Also--I did buy the green maddens from another posher but she shipped them in excellent condition :) they looked like that after a sweaty Las Vegas day, completely MY fault! But great example to show how to clean them up!

@tiffcake awesome tips! You wouldn't by chance know how to get sharpie off of patent leather, would you? Thanks!
tiffcake
@doreenm0302 do you have any realllllllllllllly strong liquor? Most sharpie isn't ethanol-proof. Isopropyl alcohol and acetone won't work. We use absolute ethanol to remove sharpie all the time at work but I work in a lab... I think that most liquor is half that percentage at the strongest? Unless you live in a state that sells grain alcohol.... but lemme do a spot test to make sure it doesn't ruin the shine--I'll get back to you! :)

@doreenm0302 I use Vaseline (those little lip-care pots) to fix everything related to patent leather BUT I never tried to remove sharpie before from patent
tiffcake
Absolute ethanol takes off sharpie in one or two wipes (which is good because it evaporates super quickly--faster than acetone) strong liquor might work it might require lots more effort, like actually rubbing

@tiffcake they're SUCH pretty shoes, too!!! Nude pumps in my closet, listed for a friend. Thanks for such a quick reply!!

@doreenm0302 I'll try to remember to take a
Patent pair to work tomorrow and I'll do a sharpie test and let you know if the ethanol ruins the shine. I know that ethanol removes sharpie for sure--I just don't know if it ruins the finish. Then I'll try a home experiment... I only have cachaça (not much of a liquor drinker myself but I love caipirinhas!) and my boyfriend has bourbon. That way I'll know if you can remove it with something that doesn't come from a lab's flammable cabinet!
tiffcake
I just did a google search and bourbon is only 40% (absolute ethanol like we have at work is about 98% but I know 70% still works too--just requires rubbing) so before you have to rub, I just need to make sure it doesn't ruin shine

@tiffcake you're amazing - wow thank you SO much!!! But please don't potentially ruin a pair of yours!! And just out of curiosity. Do you feel like a superstar when you wear CL's? Gorgeous shoes....
tiffcake
@doreenm0302 sometimes--other times I worry about ruining them. I know I'm spoiled--I don't have kids or anything & I have a small house/cheap car so I get to waste my money on shoes. I've cut back though bc I don't have any more room... I totally forgot to test the patent shine. I have some cheap pairs to use as testers.

@tiffcake did you use a brown polish on that heel?
tiffcake
@mwnycnsd yes! I have a couple different colors of polish and they really bring leather shoes back to life. It minimizes scratches, scuffs, and worn areas. They probably have basic black and one or two browns at Walmart or something but I get all the colors at my local cobbler (and replacement from amazon) including even purple!!
mo_goal
@tiffcake have you found anything for silver or gold?
tiffcake
@mwnycnsd sorry I forgot to reply to you—but i did buy two shades of silver to tackle some damage on specchio pairs that I have. I’m sorry to report that it’s extremely difficult to match metallic colors (not forgiving like non-metallic colored leathers) AND that it did not provide any coverage over the scuffs. It helped only w/ the lightest scratches 😢
